Two days back I had a miraculous escape from death. For a moment I saw death staring at me in the form of dark thick smoke. I was completely blank for a moment. The next moment my mind started giving logical signals directing me to vacate my room which was slowly being swallowed by the fire. I took a second to think. I felt my leg were struck on the floor and could not move even a bit. Uff , I dont know whose unseen hand was that which woke me up at 4 a.m.. That day I was tired as i had nightshift at work. I had put off the fan as i had been suffering from fever, which saved me as it curbed the fire from spreading. It took a minute to find out the origin of the fire. I saw blue and yellow coloured fire emanating from the switch borad near the door. I used to lock door before sleeping, that day too I followed the same routine. I chose to sleep near the window near the window during rainy season just to listen the sound of rain, which saved me that day. Somehow I managed to open the door and get out of the room. Rushed to the ground floor to cut off the electricity connection to the upstairs.
Unfortunately, Myself and owner aunty tried a lot to cut off the electricty supply to the upstairs. But we failed miserably. What worried me most is the life of three people sleeping in the other room. Aunty's daughter and her two infants were sleeping when we were busy in cutting off electricty supply. We told her to take the kids and move out. Meanwhile I was told her to inform the Fire and Rescue Service Unit.
Suddenly, the thought about the presence of Gas stove in my room frightened me. I just ran back and took the stove out of the room.I felt like falling uncouncious due to the thick smell of burning plastics. We managed to switch off the main line by the time Fire and Rescue team reached the house. We were told that the reason for fire was short circute. They doused the fire too.
Belive me after everything whose face rushed to my mind? My dad, brother and my two friends. I dont know whose unseen hand was that who woke me up at peak time of my sleep. It really matters as I never woke up before 8 a.m. at PG home. May be that was my mama who woked me up. I like to believe that it was my `Karma' which made me to stay back at Pain guest home just to save four lives at that house even after dad repeadly told me to come home seeing my fever. If I was not there I am sure they might have died. But one thing I am sure that my profession (journalist) made me to act logically at difficult times instead of being frightened.
